A Matter of Perspective

“It’s the little things that frustrate me the most.”

I was referring to all the challenges we faced in dealing with our house.  We had lived there only a year, and everything from the floors to the appliances had either been replaced or new parts had been added.  I was telling a friend about my irritations when he challenged, “But you don’t know what could have really happened.”

A bit confused, I nodded for him to go on.  He relayed a simple story about a man late for work one day. The night before he had taken a jog and two blisters formed on one of his feet.  He left his house in a rush and forgot a Band-aid.  Aggravated that he had to stop to buy some Band-aids, as he left the store he looked up to the sky and shouted, “I could really use some help here!”

He huffed into his car and began driving.  As he eased back onto the highway, he glanced in his rearview mirror and noticed an accident had occurred.  He later found out a car similar to his was damaged by flying debris.  The driver of the car lived, but would be in recovery for months.  Had he not taken his detour, he just might have been in that accident.

Sometimes frustration can actually lead to the prevention of a much bigger problem.  Time after time, we think God is working against us when actually He is protecting and looking out for us every minute. It’s all in how we look at it.
