Just a Kid

By Tiffini Countaway

I hate being an adult!  I say this to my husband about once a week. With all the responsibilities of working, keeping a house, family, church, and so on it can be overwhelming at times.

I often wish I were a kid again. I want to play outside in the sun and ride my bike until the cool of the evening; no worries, no frustrations—just the joy of being a kid.

One day in the midst of fussing my frustrations to a friend, I realized something—I am a kid. I am a child of God. I don’t have to worry about the big things in my life because I have a heavenly Father who has everything under control. I am in the palm of His hand and I can relax and trust in Him.

I John 3:1 says, “See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God.”

I may not have the time or energy to run out and play, but in my spirit and mind I can take the time to slow down and rely on Him. I can rest in the cool of the evening and know my heavenly Father is taking care of me.

I can’t stop my birthdays from coming, although I wish I could.  I will continue to be an adult. But in my heart I am still just a kid—His kid!
