I chose these CDs to review because it’s what I am listening to right now. Four of the artists are southern gospel, one is rock, and the other is contemporary. I love all styles of music and just wanted to tell you about these.

Since early 1996 I have been involved with the “Global Prayer Movement” in varying degrees. Initially, I received training (a few seminar breakout sessions) to teach children missions-emphasis praying…and it changed my life. From the “AD 2000 Movement” to praying through the “10x40 Window” initiatives, I’ve been hooked on this source of fresh insight for prayer and volumes of information that deepen my commitment and grow my burden for souls. Enjoy the goodies!

Pentecostal history is one of the most important subjects of which a Oneness Apostolic should be knowledgeable. To truly understand the “why things are like they are today” and “where were these topics first brought to light” questions, we must first understand who is responsible and when the events occurred. This list will help fill in almost any question you might have concerning Pentecostal history. Want to know who and where the first person was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in the twentieth century? Want to know what the early Pentecostals believed concerning World War I? The books below will provide that answer.

One Home at a Time by Dennis Rainey (Focus on the Family)
Rainey is the director of Family Life, a family ministry under the umbrella of Campus Crusade for Christ. Generally, this book challenges couples and parents to consider the values that direct their homes. Specifically, Rainey maintains the need for a Family Reformation in our culture. He intones that such a reformation involves knowing, applying, experiencing, embracing, and proclaiming God’s truth about marriage and family. He teaches that such a reformation will take place when families will build their homes on four pillars: 1. Personal Repentance and Purity; 2. The Sacred Covenant of Marriage; 3. The Sanctity of God-Ordained Roles; 4. A Legacy of Spiritual Vitality for the Next Generation. This book burrows to the core and will cause you to seriously consider how you are building your home. Classical vocal music isn’t everybody’s cup of tea; it may be an acquired taste, or it may have been inculcated from an early age. My mother seemed to know all the words to the Verdi aria, “Tutte le feste al tempio,” and she mentioned that her aunt used to sing melodies from La Traviata as she sat sewing. At any rate, it’s a pleasure to hear singers perform without amplification; it’s a complete change from the real world in which everything seems to be electronically amplified.

Shakespeare scholars, beware. Chaucer critics, go home. There are some times when--let's face it--we're just not up for serious fiction and classic literature. So put the cap back on your highlighter and put the Cliff's Notes away. There won't be a quiz, but this collection of light-hearted favorites is sure to refresh your mind and trigger some good wholesome laughter.

Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation by Joseph J. Ellis
A great collection of relatively short accounts concerning the relationships between leading figures of the American Revolutionary War. Rather than go into great detail about “newly discovered” minutiae in an area of history that is well traveled, the author attempts to capture the essence of the time and dynamic that was playing out among the principals. In particular, the discussion of the relationship between Jefferson and Adams is noteworthy to those in church leadership at any level. Great common goals can be achieved by strong personalities even when their view of events is coming from largely dissimilar vantage points. Now in paperback, it is well worth the read, especially when sitting on airplanes.
