Wife Swap Letters

Well I finally got to watch the episode of Wife Swap with the Hoovers/Meeks and I must say, Kristen, Steve and family did a wonderful job! I cannot imagine cameras in my face 24/7 for two weeks while maintaining a Christian attitude, let alone times when they were egged on. This week we have a couple of letters stating their views on the episode as well.

It seems like a bit of a stretch--and a bit creepy--to me.  Their tagline is “The LifeGem is a certified, high quality diamond created from the carbon of your loved one as a memorial to their unique life”

RE: Apostolics on Wife Swap

I wanted to write in and say, “Bravo!” to the Hoover family!
So many times Apostolics are portrayed negatively in the media, but I
felt that this family kept their integrity and showed their faith to almost
nine million viewers.  It seemed like the Hoovers impacted the Meeks
family and I pray that a seed was planted because of this show.
Way to go!

RE: Apostolics on Wife Swap

Dear Kristen,

The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying, Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink. Jeremiah 35:1-2

And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine. But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever: Jeremiah 35:5-6

Jimmy Swaggart had a price, so did Ted Haggard, even King David stayed home when he should have been in battle.  All three found out the hard way that when you are willing to compromise a little you end up losing a lot.  After watching Wife Swap this evening I realized something simple but profound.  The Hoovers are a family of Rechabites.

Kristen I was inspired by you and your family.  I watched as you refused to let your guard down in even the simplest of things.  You remained steadfast and strong in what you believe and I admire you for that.  I especially liked what you said at the end of the show, that the most romantic thing Steve could have done for you was to protect your daughters’ modesty.

I have read some of the reactions to the risk you took.  I am amazed that we can be so quick to judge and criticize our brothers and sisters.  We can be so hateful in the Name of Lord.  But not you were kind and loving to the Meeks family and I am sure they will not soon forget your example of faith and love.

The critics will come and go.  You may have to listen to some very mean and cruel things over the next few weeks.  Stay strong my friend God has and will use your family mightily.  In closing I leave the lyrics of one of my favorite Susan Aston songs:

To deal with the scoffers

Well it’s part of the bargain

They heckle from back rows

And bark at the moon

Their flowers are fading in times bitter garden

But your is only beginning to bloom

So keep on the same road

And keep on your toes

And just keep your heart steady as she goes

And let them call you what they will

Just remember a rose by any name is still

A rose

A Rose is a Rose
