Letters

February 26, 2007

It’s funny, but it really isn’t that this week’s letters discuss how important it is for us to get out there and “show our faith.” That very thing happened with us this week when I was in charge of my son’s Blue and Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts. There were 250 people in attendance there and only five of us were Apostolic. But, because I was in charge, the caterer I hired was an Apostolic caterer in hopes that other lights might shine.

Through our lives we can influence so many people without even realizing it. The banquet, happily, was a success. Whatever our audience, we need to realize that God’s orchestrates even more than we imagine. As we learned, the Wife Swap producers intend for their show to provide ratings and money while God intends for His orchestrating to provide Him glory. I’m glad I work for Him instead of man!

(And in case you missed it, ninetyandnine.com is offering $300 to the best video, here are some suggestions/ideas for you to look at and to get ideas.  The deadline is February 28, 2007. RE: Apostolics on Wife Swap

I am so inspired by Kristen Hoover’s ministry opportunity on the show “Wife Swap.”  We need more people associated with the UPC to get out of the box and do creative, exciting things like this that challenge the status quo.  Just coming to church on Sunday and going door-knocking on Saturday won’t get it anymore.

Shame on the people who criticize her and her family for taking advantage of this great opportunity!  If people want to live their churchy life and pretend like the rest of the world isn’t out there, let them implode with their own holiness.

Thanks, Kristen, for being brave enough to answer the call of God.  I know the Meeks family won’t quickly forget their encounter with you.  Your closing statement in the interview was so powerful: “I feel by being there, I was able to remind Tony that God still loves him and is not finished with him.”

That’s just like God to orchestrate this entire experience just to let someone know that He loves them.

RE: Apostolics on Wife Swap

Thanks for providing the behind-the scenes insight with the Hoover’s follow-up interview. It was great to hear how intentional and preemptive they were creating their own “story lines” to prevent damage to the faith. The father’s decision to take the heat sounds pretty noble. I still wonder if it could have been handled differently, but

hearing how the director wanted so much more conflict than was present in Kristin’s story, it may have been that Steve’s “sacrifice” kept the show from even being cut!
