Ministering Adventures in Ghana

By Anita Sargeant
February 20, 2006

On Tuesday afternoon, January 3, 2006, Bro. and Sis. David Norris left me at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis after helping me to overcome any difficulties connected with taking all of the goods that I packed in my suitcases. In addition to taking supplies to some of the missionaries, my heart wanted to take things for the nationals and my luggage would not contain all that my heart dictated. The kind gentleman at the American Airlines desk didn’t hold me to all of the restrictions that he could have and as the Norrises and I stood there barely daring to breathe, he weighed and reweighed his decisions before he finished off the paper work and called the next person.

The plane lifted off in St Louis then landed in Chicago, where I boarded an international flight for London and then on to Accra, Ghana.

I Am Persuaded—Because of the Times 2006

January 30, 2006
By Laura Aranda

Many have probably already heard about the outstanding Because of the Times conference that took place in Louisiana on January 17-20, 2006. My pastor attended this conference; when he returned, he shared the Rev. Jeff Arnold’s preaching video with our church. The message has so consumed me that every day I think about it.

THRIVE 2005

Interpreting Feelings in the Context of Your Relationship

January 16, 2006

As I pulled into the Gaylord Texan for this year’s THRIVE conference (December 27-29, 2005).  I couldn’t help but remember how much I loved this hotel.  From the cowboy boots on the carpet to the star on the atrium’s dome, the hotel complex is everything it should be.  I haven’t been to many conferences designed by and for twentysomethings (I actually didn’t know they existed without  the word singles attached), and while I now know that THRIVE isn’t the only conference of its kind, I do know that—like the hotel it was held in—it is everything it should be.

Most Christian conferences are about the now, the white hot moment of worship or repentance or rebirth. Consecration 2005 was different. It was about 4:27 p.m. on December 14.

Over-The-Hill Quizzing

By Josh Lewis
November 14, 2005

I sat on the church pew with butterflies in my stomach and an almost-uncontrollable urge to visit the boys’ room I’d passed in the foyer.  I smiled in a casual, friendly manner at old friends who sat around me, but my organs were tying themselves in knots.  My palms dripped perspiration, so I constantly dried them on my trousers.  I wasn’t responding to a fiery message; I was about to take a seat behind the quiz board.

Inferno X

By Jordan Newman and Sarah k. Holland
November 14, 2005

They come for the effects.  To clap their bright orange thunder-sticks along with the band playing in the crow’s nest at the back of the sanctuary during the Inferno X pre-show.  To see the countdown in life-sized Roman numerals change with the beat of the gong on stage, the band platform that moved both during and between songs, and to see the huge X of light at each side of the platform—signaling that this was the tenth annual Inferno—burst forth with light sticks that spread their way across the nearly filled, brand-new 2,800 seat sanctuary of The Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills, Michigan, on October 28-29, 2005.
