Alone Time with Jesus—Priceless

Almost everything has a price.  A commercial for a credit card company has attempted to show us that we can spend money on certain things to attain a priceless reward: maybe a ballgame, a hot dog, and a big foam finger can lead to priceless memories with a child.

 

Yet there is nothing we have or can ever attain in this world that is equal in value to time alone in God’s presence.  Some call it sitting at the Master’s feet.  I call it sitting on Dad’s lap, His arms embracing me, His love fully enveloping me.  That is the epitome of a hug!  It is a place I find hard to leave.  There are no worries there.  There is no pain, no sickness, no bills to pay. 

 

When I get into His presence I trade all of those for His peace and His joy.  The psalmist said, “You have shown me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy and at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore” (Psalms 16:11). 

 

There are so many things in this life that vie for our time, and sometimes we can neglect our time alone with God.  I know that I do.  I don’t like to leave His presence, but it sure is hard for me to get there at times.  Family, work, and school responsibilities leave little time for much else.  Those are all good and noble causes, but they can get overwhelming when I try to do it alone.  Before long the stress sits in and, instead of climbing into Jesus’ lap, I find myself falling at His feet asking Him to pick me up. 

 

Are you stressed?  Sit at the Master’s feet.  Hurting?  Depressed?  Climb up into Jesus’ lap.  Worried about the future?  Let God show you the path of life.  He is waiting for you.
